Dear colleagues,
The FACE2FACE Abschlussveranstaltung will be held on 10th Oct 2017 (14:00-18:00 Uhr), at the Hochschule Geisenheim University, Gerd-Erbslöh-Hörsaal.
Below is the agenda of this event.
Dear colleagues,
The FACE2FACE conference titled ‘FACEing the future – food production and ecosystems under a changing climate’ which took place from the 26th to 29th of September 2016 was a great success!
In these four days, young and well established scientists from all over the world working on or with the data from FACE experiments met in Giessen. The presentations of well-known keynote speakers and the excellent quality of the talks in the sessions initiated lively discussions.
The very interesting excursions to the Giessen and Geisenheim FACE sites took place under best weather conditions and were completed by the outstanding conference dinner in the old wine cellars of a sparkling wine producer in Geisenheim.
We hope that all of the members of the conference had a good trip back home and keep their time on the conference in fondest memories.
All the best,
The Organizing Team
Begutachtung Loewe-Schwerpunkt Face2Face: 13.-14. September 2016, Hauptgebäde der Justus-Liebig-Universität Gießen, Ludwigstrasse 23, 35390 Gießen.
How will primary production react to increasing atmospheric CO2 and temperatures? Will yields and food quality change? What are the feedbacks between soil, plants and the atmosphere? Will ecosystem functioning change? And do experimentalists monitor what modellers need for their projections?
The international conference "FACEing the future | food production and ecosystems" from September 26-29, 2016, will bring together leading scientists to discuss these issues and many more in a number of sessions. The conference will be hosted by the FACE2FACE consortium at Justus Liebig University Giessen
A number of side events will provide plenty of opportunities to get to know each other in a relaxed atmosphere, and explore future collaborations and new scientific ideas.
We will have the following sessions:
Session 1: Nutrient cycling
Session 2: Phyllosphere, pests and pathogens
Session 3: Yields and food quality
Session 4: Advances in FACE and manipulation techniques
Session 6: Ecophysiology
Session 7: Modelling and meta-analysis
Session 8: Trace gas emissions

Dr. Naiming Yuan from the Department of Geography, JLU, collaborator of Workpackage B, is awarded the "WMO Professor Mariolopoulos Trust Fund Award for 2016" for his important published work on "Detrended Partial-Cross-Correlation Analysis: A New Method for Analyzing Correlations in Complex System”, published in Nature Scientific Reports in 2015. The prize is 2500 Dollar and will be given to Naiming 26 September in Athens, Greece.
On 23rd Jun, 2016, the "Data Upload workshop" will be held between 9:30am and 12:30am, at the seminar room B422, in the department of Plant Ecology, Heinrich-Buff-Ring 26-32, Giessen. We will focus on structuring and uploading new research data into the FACE2FACE databank. Everz research unit member is invited to join the workshop. If you are interested, please contact the data manage, Dr. Naiming Yuan.
The annual conference of the Ecological Society of Germany, Austria and Switzerland (GfÖ) will take place in Marburg, 5th to 9th September, 2016. The call for session proposals is open till 29th Feb, 2016.

The F2F "Science Day" meeting will be held on 3rd December, 2015, 13:00, at room CVH401 of the “Carl-Vogt-Haus” (Heinrich-Buff-Ring 38). There will be six talks focusing on the effects of extreme weather conditions, breaking point analysis of eCO2 effects, simulation of nitrogen fixation, ground water nitrate supply, biomass, water use efficiency, etc.
Further information will be distributed via email.
The PhD seminar will be held from 3rd to 4th Nov, 2015, at Cloister Johannisberg. During the seminar, we will focus on the status of the PhD students' research. Every PhD students are encouraged to give a talk.
Besides, Dr. Naiming Yuan will show briefly how to upload data to our databank.
Further information will be distributed via email.
For all students and supervisors: here is a great possibility for an exchange visit through the EU-cost action ‘Climmani’ with travel and other expenses covered by a possible grant.
